Social media is interwoven in the fabric of our society. It is how we communicate, consume content and often our source of entertainment. Unless this is your first time here, you know how much of my professional and personal life has been dedicated to showing educators, parents, and students how to leverage social media positively and to be empower students to become inspiring leaders in online spaces.

Especially now, while so many of us are still social distancing, social media is providing us with opportunities to connect meaningfully to artist, authors, scientists, and so many others who are showing us that social media has so much potential for our students. (speaking of which have you checked out this resource by Jonathan Redeker?)

One of the struggles I often hear teachers wonder about is how do they balance risk with opportunity.

I am excited to share, that I have teamed up with Adam Hill, elementary teacher, founder of Media By Example and award-winning education blogger to develop a FREE Empowered Digital Leaders online course for educators as part of my Google Innovator project.

Using the descriptors of digital leadership, as outlined in Social LEADia, the course will empower you and your students to leverage social media to:

  • Learn and share learning

  • Empower and celebrate others

  • Promote important causes

  • Make a positive difference in the world

Intended audience:

  • Elementary teachers who know they should somehow empower their pre-teen students to use social media positively but don’t know where to start

  • All teachers who wonder how to embed social media in the context of teaching and learning without adding to their already full plates

  • Administrators who would like to support their teachers and students to use social media positively

We are in the planning stages and would be honoured if you would give us feedback as we plan for a course launch this summer. Link to form.

Can’t wait to learn with you! In the meantime, please stay well,

Jen
