There is no room for ego

For the past almost two weeks, I wake up early and scour the internet for live learning experiences to share in my Daily Connections post. Why?

If you know anything about me or my book, Social LEADia, you know that using social media to learn and share learning, empower and celebrate others, and to make a positive difference in the world is my life’s work and passion.

This morning, I woke up to the following tweet by my friend Michael Drezek:

I have to admit, I started to cry: not just because I am extra emotional these days. You see this site is WAY BETTER than my updates. It allows you to add events to your calendar. For a millisecond, I thought, I will just scroll on and pretend I never saw it. But the fact is, people should see this resource and showcasing it is way more important than my ego. What I did instead, was add the link to my parenting page.

These are the lessons I am taking from this experience:

  • We have an obligation to share what we create
  • We never know how far-reaching or valuable our sharing might be to others
  • Your PLN can always use more knowledgeable and creative people in it
  • There is no room for ego when we are trying to serve parents, teachers, and students to the best of our ability
  • Regardless of how it happens, connecting kids to authentic learning experiences is invaluable
  • There are always going to be people smarter than me and more creative than me, but that doesn’t take away from my own unique gifts
  • Crying is my personal response to stress 😉

And so, now I will amplify and share out Jonathan’s calendar because it is fantastic. I am just as happy. The most important thing is that we work together to support the communities we serve.

Stay well, friends.
